Hidden cascades, jungle pools, and the thrill of discovering Bali's secret waterfalls.
The countryside around Ubud is laced with rivers that tumble through deep jungle ravines, and where the terrain drops away, you will find waterfalls — dozens of them, each with its own character and charm. Tegenungan Falls, just twenty minutes from Kano Sari, is the most accessible and one of the most impressive: a broad, powerful curtain of water plunging into a wide pool that is perfect for swimming. Its proximity to Ubud makes it a natural first stop, though we always suggest arriving before ten in the morning to enjoy it in relative peace.
For those willing to explore a little further, the rewards multiply. Kanto Lampo is a striking cascade that flows over dramatic layered rock formations, creating a series of natural steps where water fans out in photogenic sheets — a favourite with photographers and adventurous swimmers alike. Tibumana, reached by a short jungle trail, is a gentler twin waterfall that spills into a serene, emerald-coloured pool surrounded by dense tropical foliage. And then there is Tukad Cepung, perhaps the most magical of all: a hidden fall concealed inside a narrow canyon, where shafts of morning sunlight pierce through gaps in the rock above and illuminate the mist in an almost otherworldly display.
Each waterfall is a small adventure in itself — a descent through fragrant jungle, the growing roar of water, and the cool, exhilarating moment you arrive at the pool and realise you have this corner of Bali largely to yourself. We know which falls are worth the trek and which are best avoided on busy days, so let us help you plan the perfect waterfall morning.
