Ayung River Rafting

The Ayung River is Bali’s longest, and rafting its rapids is one of the most exhilarating ways to experience the island’s extraordinary natural beauty. From the moment you push off, the river draws you into a world that feels utterly removed from the everyday: towering walls of tropical vegetation rise on either side, their roots clinging to sheer rock faces dripping with moss and ferns. Small waterfalls cascade into the river from side ravines, ancient stone carvings appear carved into the canyon walls, and the canopy above is alive with the calls of tropical birds. Between the scenery, the Class II and III rapids provide just enough white-water excitement to keep the adrenaline flowing — splashy, fun, and genuinely thrilling without ever feeling dangerous.

No prior rafting experience is needed. Professional guides steer from the back of each raft, calling out paddle commands and keeping everyone safe, while the rapids do the rest. Children as young as five can join in, making this one of the best family adventure activities around Ubud. The full journey takes around two hours and covers approximately eleven kilometres, winding through deep gorges and past rice terraces that slope down to the river’s edge.

After the final rapid, you climb a set of stone steps to a riverside restaurant where a generous buffet lunch is waiting — a welcome reward after all that paddling.
